Crew transfer and emergency services in Brunei have advanced with the addition of a new hybrid-propulsion fast crew boat to one of the nation’s main vessel operators
Bruneian offshore operator Amarco has added to its fleet a new fast crew boat (FCB) built by Singapore-headquartered Strategic Marine to transfer personnel and respond to fires and oil spills.
Amarco S1 is a 42-m fourth generation vessel powered by triple Baudouin 12M26.3 engines coupled with ZF3050 gearboxes, to turn three propellers and achieve speeds of 29 knots.
It also has an energy storage system as part of a “plug-and-play hybrid system” enabling this vessel to entirely work on battery power for some operations.
Strategic Marine said it was built ready for upgrade with provision for integration of a gyro stabiliser and a motion-compensated gangway for future capabilities.
“This forward-thinking approach ensures the vessel can adapt to future environmental standards, contributing to greener offshore operations,” said Strategic Marine.
The vessel’s manoeuvrability is further optimised with a bow thruster and auto-trimming interceptors, providing the captain with greater control during complex offshore operations.
Amarco S1 has an external fire-fighting system (FiFi1) and an oil dispersant unit to respond to emergencies such as oil spills and fires. It has “cruise-style interiors”, larger windows, reclining chairs with tray tables and USB charging ports for all passengers, and a large deck aft of the accommodation for cargo transportation and logistics support.
Strategic Marine chief executive Chan Eng Yew said Amarco S1 will “serve the demanding Bruneian offshore oil and gas sector.”
