Bay Houston Towing Co is investing in the tugboat fleet operating in ports on the US Gulf coast
The Texas-headquartered owner has ordered two new tugs from Master Boat Builders, Inc for completion mid-2022.
Master Boat Builders has already laid the keel for the first of these two vessels at its Coden, Alabama shipyard which will be delivered July 2022. Both 26-m tugs will be built with a beam of 11.8 m to a design by Robert Allan Ltd and classed by ABS.
They will meet US Coast Guard regulations and US Environmental Protection Agency Tier 4 emissions requirements. Two Caterpillar 3512E main engines will each produce 1,650 kW of power to drive two Schottel Z-drive thrusters, of type SRP 430 with fixed pitch propellers, giving these tugs a bollard pull of 52 tonnes.
On the bow of these tugs will be a DEPCF-48 Markey Machinery winch.
Master Boat Builders president Garrett Rice said it would use an “integrated approach to vessel design, engineering and construction to build these new tugboats on schedule and at a value to Bay Houston Towing.” He added “these vessels will add to its impressive fleet of tugboats.”
To a similar delivery schedule, Master Boat Builders is constructing two nearly identical tugs for Suderman & Young. These will also have Caterpillar 3512E main engines and bollard pull of 52 tonnes.
Master Boat Builders has built over 430 vessels including tugboats, offshore supply vessels, fishing vessels and dive support vessels since it was established in 1979.
