BW LNG is implementing software across its fleet to collect and analyse real-time sensor data to improve reporting to charterers and reduce emissions from its gas carriers
BW LNG is investing in software to optimise operations, fuel consumption and reporting from its fleet of gas carriers and regasification vessels. The fleet owner will use data analytics and vessel monitoring technologies for energy efficiency, emissions analysis, itinerary planning and benchmarking.
BW LNG is deploying Oceanly’s suite of programs across its fleet in Q1 and Q2 2025, under a partnership between BW LNG and Oceanly that started in Q4 2024.
“The first objective of the project has been to streamline the vessel reporting process,” said BW LNG data scientist, Børge Mokleiv. “At present, this is labour intensive, but using Oceanly sensor data greatly simplifies the onboard job of submitting noon reports to charterers, while reducing the time spent onshore validating and correcting data.”
BW LNG is unlocking productivity gains by freeing up hours from correcting data, and then using software to detect inefficiencies, benchmark vessels and reduce emissions.
“We sought a technology partner that would understand our operational challenges and can work constructively with us to create value for our business and customers,” said BW LNG vice president for IT and digitalisation, Harald Martin Myhre.
“Oceanly gives us access to a digital platform that simplifies reporting and we expect to deliver actionable insights for optimising our fleet’s performance going forward. The results so far are promising, and we are excited to implement this across our entire fleet in the coming months.”
BW LNG is investing in LNG-fuelled ships and advanced digital tools to monitor and enhance performance, while improving its sustainability.
