The government of Canada has approved the Tilbury Marine Jetty (TMJ) project, paving the way for the construction of a jetty on the south arm of the river Fraser in British Columbia
The Tilbury LNG jetty project is a partnership between Fortis BC and its partner Seaspan Energy. The project will assist LNG bunkering in the area, with the facility providing LNG bunkering vessels with refuelling services in the Vancouver region.
The jetty will be located adjacent to FortisBC’s existing Tilbury LNG facility, leveraging the facility’s production of LNG for its own work.
Fortis BC said it will now proceed with securing the necessary remaining approvals and permits and will work towards making a final investment decision for the project.
President Roger Dall’Antonia said, “We are excited to announce the government of Canada has approved the Tilbury Marine Jetty (TMJ) project. This significant milestone allows the project to move forward in its goal of reducing emissions in the marine industry and provide benefits to our local economy.”
Canadian owner Seaspan held a launch ceremony on 1 July for a new bunker vessel at China’s CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering. Seaspan Baker, a 7,600-m3 LNG bunkering vessel, is the third (and final) bunker vessel of an order placed by Seaspan. The first two vessels, Seaspan Garibaldi and Seaspan Lions, launched in January and April this year, are scheduled for delivery later this year. Seaspan Baker will arrive next year.
