A new 35-m, semi-SWATH is being built for use by Chevron Thailand Exploration and Production, Ltd in the offshore oil and gas sector
Singapore-based Aesen held a keel-laying ceremony in mid-March for a next generation semi-SWATH, high-speed offshore crew transport vessel that will be used in the Thai offshore oil and gas sector.
The ceremony for 35-m, aluminium-hulled WIND Flyer Trimaran fast crewboat was held at Thailand’s Marsun Shipyard. Developed in collaboration with Chevron Thailand Exploration and Production, Ltd, the WIND Flyer “represents the official commencement of a next-generation vessel that will redefine offshore crew transport,” said Aesen in a press statement.
Aesen’s joint venture partner for the project is Uniwise Offshore.
Aesen, formerly known as Miclyn Express Offshore, Aesen, has a fleet of 120 vessels, including crewboats, offshore support vessels, and specialised vessels services, as well as integrated logistics solutions.
Designed for high-speed transit, reaching up to 34 knots, the trimaran hull and motion damping technology aim to provide smooth, more stable ride even in challenging wave conditions. Aesen believes the vessel’s semi-SWATH hull design, combined with advanced waterjet propulsion, enhances maneuverability, safety, and crew comfort—setting a new benchmark in offshore operations.
Marsun reported collaborating with ship designer, Wind Naval Architects Design, on the trimaran design.
“It is designed to operate effectively in challenging wave conditions up to 2.5 meters both during transfer and transit, significantly increasing operational availability, while still maintaining ample cargo and fuel capacity for a variety of offshore tasks,” said Marsun in a social media post.
"This project underscores the trust placed in Aesen and our joint venture, Uniwise Offshore, to pioneer a new standard in offshore mobility," said Aesen chief executive, Darren Ang. “The WIND Flyer Trimaran is more than just a vessel— it is a bold step forward in innovation, designed to meet the evolving demands of offshore operations while ensuring the highest standards of safety and comfort.”
