DEME has secured what it described as a ‘sizable contract’ to transport and install the inter-array cables for the Nordseecluster B offshore windfarm
Nordseecluster is a joint project between RWE (51%) and Norges Bank Investment Management (49%) and is located approximately 50 km north of the island of Juist in the German North Sea.
The two windfarms in the Nordcluster cluster – Nordcluster A, the first stage of the project, and Nordcluster B, the second stage – and will have a combined capacity of to 1.6 GW. RWE is responsible for construction and operation throughout the lifecycle of the Nordseecluster offshore wind farms.
DEME will transport and install a total of 124 km of inter-array cables for Nordseecluster B, connecting all 60 wind turbines to an offshore substation. The company said the extensive scope includes all of the engineering, preparation and support activity required.
DEME general manager subsea cables Philip Scheers said, “We look forward to working closely with the joint venture between RWE and Norges Bank Investment Management to ensure seamless execution.”
Scheduled to start towards the end of 2027, the project will see DEME deploy its cable installation vessel Living Stone, and support equipment.
DEME already has an extensive track record in offshore wind projects in German waters, in the North Sea and the Baltic. In the North Sea, DEME played a role on RWE’s Kaskasi offshore windfarm and the Merkur, Hohe See, Albatros, Godewind I and II, Dolwin 6 and Borkum Riffgrund I and II projects. In the Baltic, DEME played a role in the Arcadis Ost and Baltic Power offshore windfarms.
