DNV GL has appointed former chief executive of Telenor, Jon Fredrik Baksaas, as the company’s new chair of the board
Mr Baksaas, who also served as member of the DNV Council for 12 years, will be returning to the company where he began his professional career in 1979.
In a statement, DNV GL said Mr Baksaas’ executive experience and knowledge of DNV GL’s history and purpose made him the ideal chair at a time when DNV GL and its customers are “navigating complex digital and decarbonisation transformations”.
“I look forward to continuing the good work DNV GL has achieved and to work with the Board and DNV GL colleagues on the ambitious goals in the years to come.” said Mr Baksaas.
Lasse Kristoffersen, a current board member and the current chief executive and president of Torvald Klaveness Group will take over as vice chair. Mr Kristoffersen has been a member of the board since 2017 and previously spent 11 years working for DNV GL.
Group president and chief executive Remi Eriksen said the move will help the company chart its course for the decade ahead. “We are entering the decade of transformations where the pace of decarbonisation will be set and where the digital technologies underpinning industry 4.0 will mature from experimentation into large-scale application” he said.
Leif-Arne Langøy, who has served as chair of the board since 2011, will step down. Mr Langøy’s tenure saw the merger between the former Det Norske Veritas and Germanischer Lloyd in 2013 and the subsequent purchase of the remaining shares from former GL owner Mayfair in 2017. Board member Liselott Kilaas will not stand for re-election to the board.
Mr Eriksen said “Leif-Arne Langøy has been instrumental the past 10 years in developing the company to become a world leader in the maritime and the energy markets. He guided the board during one of the biggest changes in our 150-year history and I would like to thank him for his wisdom and hard work,” said Mr Eriksen. “Both Leif-Arne and Liselott Kilaas have helped lay the strongest foundations for DNV GL to tackle the decade of transformations.”
The DNV GL board will welcome two new members. Ingvild Sæther, the president and chef executive of Altera Infrastructure (formerly known as Teekay Offshore), was part of the oil and gas industry’s representation on the DNV council and Vestas’ executive vice-president Christian Venderby, who brings his experience from the renewable energy sector to the board.
