German shipowning and maritime logistics organisation Harren Group is deploying digital lookouts across its fleets to support crew sailing the low-emissions ships safely and cost effectively.
Harren has partnered with Orca AI to install SeaPod digital lookout on board its newbuild heavy-lift vessels, multipurpose vessels, deck carriers and dry bulk ships.
“Our new vessels are equipped with innovative, ultra-efficient engine and propulsion systems, enabling emissions-neutral operations,” said Harren Group managing director Nils Aden.
“We are taking it a step further by integrating Orca AI’s situational awareness systems to enhance safety, reduce fuel consumption and support smarter, more sustainable operations at sea.”
Orca AI’s SeaPod provides real-time visual and thermal detection, helping bridge teams identify navigational risks earlier and act proactively to prevent close-quarters situations or accidents.
“Our partnership with Orca AI will help us build an even stronger foundation for safety,” said Mr Aden. “We can now measure navigational behaviour in ways that were not possible before, ensuring our crews and fleet managers are aligned around data, not assumptions.”
Harren is also deploying Orca AI’s FleetView analytics dashboard in its shore-based offices. This software aggregates navigational event data to provide onshore teams measurable insights into bridge behaviour, enabling performance benchmarking, trend identification and focused crew training.
Recorded video and event data also supports post-voyage reviews and continuous learning, said Orca AI.
“At Harren, we recognise a shared responsibility to protect the ocean, empower our people and embrace the opportunities that innovation brings,” said Mr Aden.
“This commitment is more than words – it is action. When we navigate with care, we protect what matters most.”
Insight from SeaPods enables crew to make informed navigational decisions earlier, reducing last-minute course changes, which contributes to lower fuel consumption and emissions, and fewer incidents and near misses.
“By combining real-world navigational data with AI-driven insights, Harren is building a transparent, measurable approach to safety that empowers crews and shore teams alike,” said Orca AI chief executive and co-founder Yarden Gross.
