IMO secretary-general attends launch of Thun Resolve

Erik Thun Group launched the product tanker Thun Resolve at 11:00 on 12 February 2026 at Shipyard Ferus Smit in Leer, Germany.

The event was also attended by the Netherlands deputy director-general for civil aviation and maritime affairs, Brigit Gijsbers, who served as the vessel’s godmother.

Erik Thun Group described Thun Resolve as the newest vessel in its R-class series and said it is designed for service in the north European shortsea product tanker market.

Erik Thun Group managing director Johan Källsson said, “Thun Resolve strengthens our ability to support customers who rely on safe, efficient and dependable transport in a changing regulatory landscape.”

He added, “Each vessel we add is built for long-term value for our clients, our crews, and the regions we serve.”

According to the company, upon delivery, the vessel will enter a long-term employment programme and will be operated by Thun Tankers.

The ship will enter the managed fleet of MF Shipping Group, which will provide technical management, and it will sail as part of the Gothia Tanker Alliance.

On the technical side, Erik Thun Group said Thun Resolve incorporates shore-power readiness, adaptive propulsion, UPS battery support and a hull design intended to reduce resistance “in real operating conditions”.

The company added that the tanker is methanol-ready, with Thun Tankers BV chief commercial officer Joakim Lund highlighting, “The R-class combines proven design with practical innovation.”

He added, “Adaptive propulsion, methanol readiness, and a modern hull form give us real operational gains from day one, while shore power and UPS support reduce the environmental impact in port.”
