Intrepid Energy orders subsea well intervention technology
Subsea hardware and engineering support has been ordered for the intervention of mature oil wells in the Gulf of Guinea as an independent energy company supports enhanced reservoir production
Intrepid Energy (IEL) has contracted Aquaterra Energy to provide a bespoke subsea well-intervention package for a project in Nigeria.
Subsea hardware and services will be supplied under a multi-million-dollar, multi-year contract, enabling IEL to conduct intervention operations across mature oil wells in the region, supporting enhanced reservoir production.
Norwich, UK-headquartered Aquaterra said it will supply a complete seabed-to-surface intervention system, spanning from the subsea tree to surface intervention equipment.
Key components include tieback tooling, which provides production bore and annular access, a lightweight well pressure control system, and an ISO 13628-7 qualified open-water intervention riser with an integrated tensioning system.
In addition to providing equipment, Aquaterra will also deliver ongoing offshore engineering support throughout the project.
Its lightweight well access solution has been engineered to be deployed from jack-ups and lift boats in the Gulf of Guinea. It is a cost-effective and operationally efficient alternative to using vessels, which Aquaterra said reduces intervention costs while maintaining high safety and performance standards.
Aquaterra Energy delivery director Andrew McDowell said the company developed tailored intervention solutions to address the operational challenges of subsea well access.
“This system has been engineered for efficiency, ease of deployment and safety, helping IEL to optimise intervention activities across Nigeria while reducing costs,” he said.
“By delivering a complete, integrated package, we are simplifying complex operations and enabling operators to maximise production potential.”
Intrepid Energy chief executive, Engr Seun Alonge, said this specialised technology “enhances our ability to execute intervention programmes efficiently, maximising performance across our assets.”
Aquaterra will provide a dedicated team of engineers providing ongoing service support throughout the multi-year project.
