Bourbon Subsea Services has confirmed it has completed installation of the TetraSpar floating offshore wind turbine off the coast of Norway
After installing the mooring lines in June 2021, and towing and hook up in July, Bourbon Subsea Services completed installation of the 3.6-MW TetraSpar demonstrator at the MetCentre Test site in Norway, laying and connecting the power cables.
The wind turbine will be commissioned in the coming weeks. Working closely with its partners Shell, RWE and TEPCO, Stiesdal will undertake a series of tests on the floating foundation and wind turbine. The test site at the METCentre is approximately 10 km from shore in water depths of 200 m.
The TetraSpar foundation is a tetrahedral structure assembled from tubular steel components. Stiesdal believes it offers important competitive advantages with its potential for lean manufacturing, lean assembly and installation processes, and low material costs.
Bourbon has played a role in the installation of a number of floating wind turbines since 2011.
