Panos Laskaridis-led Lavinia Tankers has secured a fourth Suezmax at Daehan Shipbuilding, further increasing its exposure to the tanker segment
Riviera reported last month that the Greek owner exercised an option for a third Suezmax tanker at the South Korean yard, following an initial order for two vessels placed in January.
Market sources had indicated that Lavinia held an additional option for April, which has now been exercised.
On 16 April, Daehan announced it had secured a contract for a single 157,000-dwt vessel worth just over US$89M, with delivery scheduled for July 2029. While the buyer was not disclosed, shipbroking sources have linked the order to Lavinia Tankers.
With this latest deal, Daehan has secured orders for 13 vessels so far this year, surpassing its annual target by the end of the first quarter.
“Since its work schedule is already full until the end of 2029, the company will now focus on selective orders to increase profitability,” Daehan said.
Expanding tanker fleet
All four Suezmax vessels are now listed on Lavinia Tankers’ newly launched website, which highlights the company’s growing presence in the tanker sector.
Lavinia’s tanker expansion began approximately two years ago in the MR segment, with three vessels built at China’s Zhoushan Changhong Shipyard. Two of these – Saronic Wind and Parian Trader – have already been delivered, while the third, Baltic Champion, is expected later this year.
The company currently operates a fleet of 14 tankers, comprising MR tankers and smaller vessels, and is running a newbuilding programme for five additional units.
Lavinia Tankers operates as the tanker arm of the Laskaridis Shipping/Lavinia Corp, which manages one of the largest Greek-controlled fleets, spanning bulk carriers, tankers, and refrigerated cargo vessels.
Riviera’s International Chemical and Product Tanker Conference will be held in London on 21-22 April 2026. Use this link for more information and to register for the event.
