The return of live events and conferences will allow the LNG industry to discuss challenges presented by Covid-19, reviving international trade, the environmental crisis, and the path to COP26
As parts of society commence a return, of sorts, towards pre-Covid life and activities, various gas and maritime conferences and events are being planned for those who can attend in person and for those who wish to attend virtually.
Top-level speakers at the London International Shipping Week, 13-17 September (held every two years) Headline Conference, ‘Driving Growth in a Disrupted World’ – hosted at the London headquarters of IMO – will examine key global issues, from the Covid-19 pandemic to reviving international trade, addressing the environmental crisis, and marking the path to COP26. High on the agenda will be global economic pressures, finance, technology and innovation, regulations, people and skills, and the impact of these main drivers on the international maritime industry.
Gastech is the first major gas, LNG, hydrogen, and energy event to take place in 2021, enabling the industry to engage, as it adapts and responds to the collective challenges and opportunities it faces and it will take place from 21-23 September 2021 in Dubai, enabling the entire global gas, LNG, hydrogen, and clean energy industry the opportunity to engage, as it adapts and responds to the collective challenges and opportunities the industry faces.
Gastech 2021 will showcase the very best services, technologies and products from across the global energy value chain and the organisers are hoping for 20,000+ expected in-person attendees and over 400 exhibitors. As a co-chair I have seen the selected abstracts which are all of a very high quality, with many focusing on decarbonisation. Hydrogen and CO2 shipping have several papers selected and both are fascinating new topics for anyone in our industry. Both products have unique challenges in their bulk transportation at sea and, we at SIGTTO, look forward to being heavily involved with this very exciting carriage of non-hydrocarbon gases in bulk at sea for the first time.

On 4-5 November, this year’s LNG Ship/Shore Interface Conference is due to take place in London as a live event. I am part of the advisory panel and SIGTTO is, as in previous years, an official supporting organisation of the event. The programme will focus on all aspects of the ship/shore interface covering LNG carrier and terminal operations, cargo and custody transfer systems, berthing and escort tugs, mooring and jetty arrangements and cargo-handling equipment.
As was the case for past events, prominent speakers and delegates from across the supply chain will participate, including vessel owners and operators, charterers, LNG terminal and jetty operators, LNG ports and specialised equipment, technology and service providers.
How pleasant and positive it will be, after the last 17 months or so, to meet fellow professionals face-to-face again.
A large part of SIGTTO’s engagement with its membership are the face-to-face meetings through regional forums, panel meetings and the technical committees. We have continued this engagement, during the pandemic, through a series of member webinars and, on 7 October, we will be having another virtual panel meeting to follow the one held last April. We hope that our face-to-face panel in Athens, scheduled for April 2022, can go ahead as planned.
My final thoughts are with those who have lost their lives and their families due to Covid-19. We hope that we can all draw a line under this issue very soon and life returns to normal.
