German engine maker MAN Energy Solutions said its MAN 51/60DF engine has notched up 10M operational hours in the market
The company announced the milestone last week, noting since its market entry, there are 310 engines currently in service. Notably, 100 units have been sold since 2022.
PrimeServ Germany head Stefan Eefting said, “This is a significant milestone that stands testimony to the character of this engine. The 51/60DF has become a fixture in shipping and power-plant operation and stands for absolute reliability – even in high ambient temperatures. Switching between the different fuels happens at the touch of a button and is possible at any point between 0 and 100% load without any loss of power or frequency shift.”
He added fuel flexibility “is a must for modern engines”. The 51/60DF is capable of operating on heavy fuel oil, marine diesel and liquid biofuel, biogas and synthetic gas and distillates and has been in the company portfolio since 2009. MAN’s engine comes in power classes from 6.3 to 20.7 MW and is serviced by the aftersales division MAN PrimeServ.
The company said it supplies all auxiliary system components to its engines and customers receive MAN injection systems and MAN control and automation systems from the one source.
“In the coming years, it will also be capable of operation on other green synthetic fuels such as methanol, contributing to the decarbonisation of the energy and maritime sectors” Mr Eefting said.
