One of the world’s largest container lines is investing in higher-speed communications, cyber security and onboard IT systems across its fleet
Mediterranean Shipping Co (MSC) is accelerating its digital transformation by contracting Marlink to provide connectivity and remote support for a fleet of 127 vessels.
Marlink is providing hybrid connectivity, remote IT and cyber-threat detection solutions to support MSC’s operational efficiency, secure IT management and compliance to IMO’s latest environmental and security regulations.
MSC is deploying Marlink’s hybrid network including VSAT connectivity, with L-band backup and global 4G connectivity on its ships. This hybrid network solution is secured by Marlink’s cyber-detection service, which scans real-time outbound and inbound network traffic for targeted cyber threats and takes immediate countermeasures to remediate incidents.
In another phase of its digitalisation strategy, MSC will install Marlink’s ITLink management solution across the fleet to standardise its onboard IT systems and enable MSC to meet IMO’s cyber-risk management requirements that came into force in 2021.
MSC’s fleet managers will also be able to monitor operating IT systems and software from shore, as ITLink enables MSC fleet managers to remotely access onboard IT networks for troubleshooting and to implement software updates and patches in a secure environment.
