A Canadian green fuels producer and exporter has welcomed a fleet of support tugboats at its terminal in Nova Scotia
EverWind Fuels has started operating three new tugboats at its oil product export terminal at Point Tupper, Nova Scotia, Canada.
Damen Song Cam Shipyard in Vietnam built these tugs as part of a US$50M investment to support green fuel exports from the terminal and to escort tankers through the Strait of Canso.
Dawson Duck and Everwind Rose Gold were built as reverse stern drive (RSD) tugs to an RSD 2513 design with 70 tonnes of bollard pull, a beam of 13 m and two Caterpillar-manufactured C32 V12 engines with combined output of 3,854 kW.
Everwind Pride is an azimuth stern drive (ASD) tug built to Damen’s ASD 3212 design with an overall length of 33 m, a beam of 12 m and two Cat 3516-C main engines providing a bollard pull of 81 tonnes.
All three have selective catalytic reduction units and urea tanks to minimise NOx emissions from engine exhaust and to comply with IMO Tier III emissions standards.
They replaced EverWind’s contracted fleet of three tugboats which were built between 1992 and 2004 and facilitate the export and transport of green hydrogen and ammonia fuels produced at Point Tupper.
The 28th International Tug & Salvage Convention, Exhibition & Awards will be held in Gothenburg, Sweden, in association with Caterpillar, 19-21 May 2026. Use this link for more details of this industry event and the associated social and networking opportunities.
