Aegean Shipping Management has placed an order for a third Aframax vessel from China’s Cosco Heavy Industry shipyard
The new order comes after the Greek company signed an agreement with Cosco Heavy Industry for the construction of two 114,000-dwt tankers in September 2020 with the option of a third vessel. Both companies also signed a letter of intent for a fourth vessel.
Aegean Shipping has now ordered 12 vessels from Cosco in the last four years. The deliveries of the four ships are scheduled between June 2022 and March 2023 and the company said the average age of its 15-vessel fleet on completion will be 2.9 years and consist solely of newbuilds.
The company said “ All Aegean Shipping vessels and the new acquisitions are certified with the highest ECO-friendly class notations enhancing our commitment to the protection of the environment and strengthening the ’Green Fleet’ perspective governing our operations.”
