Stern tube seal and propulsion service expert AEGIR-Marine has opened its new propulsion workshop, R&D centre and academy in Wijk bij Duurstede in the Netherlands.
During the event, DNV GL officially issued the workshop approval certification for the new propulsion workshop and AEGIR-Marine launched its new proprietary, brand-independent and hyper-robust seal.
This is the first brand-independent seal with official certification at component level from classification agencies Lloyd's Register and the American Bureau of Shipping. AEGIR-Marine project manager Johan van de Loenhorst officially received the certificate during the seminar. The seal was developed by AEGIR-Marine’s R&D department.
As part of the opening event, the stern tube seal and propulsion service expert held a seminar entitled Exploring the Future of Services. The two-day event was attended by some 400 customers and business relations. Astronaut André Kuipers, Tjapko Poppens, Mayor of Wijk bij Duurstede, and the owners of AEGIR-Marine, Ruud Muis and Hans Dekker, jointly commissioned the opening ceremony.
AEGIR-Marine hosted innovative product and service demonstrations in its new building. This included an augmented reality demonstration and the possibility for visitors to repair a bow thruster through a holoLens. The company has built two AR applications, which can also be used for training purposes.
