The VS 4622 CD design Loke Viking is a vessel of 19,040 bhp. It was due to begin a four month charter in June for Cairn Energy subsidiary Capricorn Energy to support exploration drilling offshore Greenland. The ship will join Vidar Viking, which went on hire to Capricorn in May, and Balder Viking, which is also scheduled to begin in June.
Sweden-flagged Loke Viking has an LOA of 85.20m, a deadweight of 4,500 tonnes and deck area of 750m2. The vessel’s quartet of MAK main engines achieve a bollard pull of 210 tonnes and an impressive top speed of 17 knots on about 63 tonnes per day.
Towing and anchor handling comes from a Brattvaag double drum winch of 400 tonnes pull and 550 tonnes brake holding. There are two secondary winches with 138 tonnes of pull. Class notation includes ICE-1A, Oilrec, DPII, Clean Design and Stand-By.
