UK-based NSSLGlobal has acquired Norwegian online television specialist SnapTV to launch IP-based entertainment services for maritime and offshore sectors. The companies will collaborate to promote TV and media distribution to shipping, offshore vessels and drilling rigs to enhance the working environment and crew welfare.
NSSLGlobal has satellite connectivity using VSAT and L-band for these services. SnapTV provides a range of infotainment software, hardware and services. The infotainment software service uses graphical user interfaces to provide TV, film and radio programs. Snap TV’s video on demand and TV streaming will provide a legally licenced media content to crews over NSSLGlobal’s VSAT IP@Sea service.
NSSLGlobal group chief executive Sally-Anne Ray said its customers should find SnapTV’s core streaming technology and fully licenced content compelling. She added: “SnapTV is an obvious investment choice for us and there are very clear synergies between our satellite communications technologies and SnapTV’s offering. Combine this with our ability to broadcast SnapTV over a separate satellite channel to VSAT IP@Sea vessels and it becomes an even more compelling way to enhance the working environment and crew welfare on ships and oil rigs. With the combination of both companies knowledge and experience, we look forward to emerging with a stronger, united product portfolio.”
NSSLGlobal’s acquisition of SnapTV further underlines its continuing commitment to Norway as a key maritime market. Earlier this year, NSSLGlobal announced a strategic partnership with Norwegian satellite communications reseller FleetCom AS
The deal is the beginning of a new investment programme from NSSLGlobal. The British company is offering capital, contacts and expertise to help innovative companies to generate business by adding applications to its existing added value services.
