Orion Reederei deploys Starlink across bulk fleet

Orion has joined forces with Tototheo Maritime to install hardware to connect to SpaceX’s Starlink low earth orbit (LEO) satellites for seafarer welfare services.

It manages a fleet of 40 bulk carriers and is committed to providing reliable, high-speed internet access and communications solutions to its crews.

“By partnering with Tototheo, we will offer our crew members the benefits of Starlink’s advanced satellite connectivity,” said Orion Reederei IT generalist Mirko Labenda.

“Our crew’s well-being is of utmost importance to us, and by providing reliable, high-speed internet access, we are ensuring they can stay connected with their families and friends while delivering their duties effectively.”

Starlink has already been installed on some of Orion’s managed ships including bulk carrier Pax, where the master, Captain Sosnowski, said crew can effortlessly communicate with their families and friends.

They can also use Starlink to “share important moments and access valuable information, regardless of location.”

He is positive about the improvement in crew welfare on board Pax. “Starlink’s dependable, high-speed internet access has significantly enhanced the overall well-being and morale on board,” said Capt Sosnowski.

Tototheo Maritime co-chief executive Despina Panayiotou Theodosiou said the company and Orion will continue striving to deliver connectivity and crew welfare on these vessels.
