Scan Geophysical ASA (Scan) has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with Petrobras International Braspetro BV (Portugal) on behalf of a consortium formed with Galp and Partex. This is for an 8,500km high technology, long offset 2-D survey off the Portuguese coast.
Scan’s Geo Searcher, currently working in the Mediterranean, was scheduled to commence operations by the end of June. The ship will be utilising a 10,000m long MSX solid (gel-filled) streamer system and an approximately 4,000 in3 source array designed for low frequency output.
“Equipped with state of the art seismic recording, positioning, source and processing systems, Geo Searcher is ideally suited for long offset 2-D geophysical survey operations, such as this project for Petrobras,” said Kjell Karlsson, vice president of sales and marketing for Scan. “We believe the demand for these kinds of surveys will grow in the future,” he added.
Scan Geophysical has also recently confirmed receipt of a contract from Hess Libya Exploration for approximately 4,000km of 2-D marine seismic work off Libya, to be acquired by Geo Searcher.
“We are extremely pleased that Hess chose to award Scan this important work” said Mr Karlsson. “Geo Searcher is being mobilised from a previous work location off Pakistan where the vessel successfully completed a large 2-D programme for another major oil company.”OSJ
