Sefine Shipyard is constructing a clutch of double-ended car and passenger ferries, for customers including the Port of Tallin and Norwegian owner Basto Fosen.
The Turkey-based shipyard held a steel cutting ceremony at the end of April for the first of the two ferries for Basto Fosen which will serve in the Norwegian Seas between Moss and Horten (building number NB28). The steel cutting ceremony for the second vessel (NB29) was held in May. The ferries will be 142.9m in length and 20.7m in width, capable of holding 600 passengers, 200 cars and 24 trucks. They will be equipped in compliance with DNV classed and ICE-C notation.
The other double-ended car and passenger ferry projects under constructionat the shipyard are: two ferries for the Port of Tallin, which have capacity for 600 passengers, 150 cars and 12 trucks; one for Norway's Fosen Namsos, which has capacity for 38 cars, three trucks and 150 passengers; and a ferry for Norway's Norled, which has capacity for 151 passengers, 40 cars and four trucks.
"Sefine is the first turnkey ferry made in Turkey for a Norwegian owner. We are working with the most successful designers in order to meet our customers' needs. Having inhouse design engineers means we are flexible and can reply to customers' requests instantly. The Sefine-built ferries are environmentally friendly, meet the minimum emission levels requirements and correspond to the comfort rules of class authority for passenger and crew," commented Sefine general coordinator Süleyman Akın Tuzcuoğlu.
