Owners of offshore support vessels (OSVs) in Norway are again benefiting from rising demand and charter extensions as energy companies prepare for new field developments and maintenance
Siem Offshore was the latest owner to report additional work for a multipurpose support vessel, gaining a contract extension for 2009-built Siem Dorado, keeping it employed in Brazil for most of 2024 in direct continuation of the current contract.
This MT 6017 MK II design vessel has a 100-tonne heave-compensated offshore crane, a 7 m by 7 m moonpool and remotely operated vehicle (ROV) for light construction duties and subsea operations. According to automatic identification system (AIS) data, this 4,869-gt, 94-m vessel was operating out of bases in Rio de Janeiro and Niteroi and at the Sepia field offshore Brazil.
Golden Energy Offshore Services also received a contract extension in Latin America for its 2019-built platform supply vessel (PSV) Energy Empress. This Ålesund, Norway-headquartered owner said the charter has been extended for another six months, keeping this 3,795-gt, 83-m vessel utilised until 24 October 2024. According to AIS, Energy Empress is operating in the Chaguaramas area of Trinidad & Tobago.
In Norway, Equinor extended employment of Simon Møkster Shipping’s 2010-built PSV Stril Mermaid for another four months, until the end of June 2024.
This 3,129-gt, 79-m vessel is providing platform supply and standby duties in the Norwegian Sea, and according to AIS, has been employed at the Visund oil field and operates from the Floro base in Norway.
Equinor also secured access to a semi-submersible accommodation unit from Floatel International for long-term maintenance on the platforms in the Oseberg field in the North Sea. Floatel said Equinor has gained contract extension options for Floatel Superior that could extend its contract for 5-8 months, which would keep this 2010-built semi-submersible employed for 14 months in total.
During that contract period, Floatel Superior will support maintenance of the Åsgard B floating production semi-submersible during Q2 and Q3 2025 and the Oseberg platforms from Q4 2025.
Floatel Superior is an accommodation and construction support vessel with Kongsberg dynamic positioning to DP3 class, capacity for 440 people in single-bed cabins, a telescopic gangway to transfer personnel to the host installation, two deck cranes, workshops, lay-down and storage areas and a helideck.
