NSC-Group has renewed its investment in ship connectivity, crew welfare and remote monitoring for greater levels of digitalisation
It has expanded its contract with VSAT provider Marlink for its managed fleet of more than 40 ships, including container ships, tankers, car carriers and bulkers.
This will support vessel performance optimisation with always-on connectivity, through Marlink’s Sealink Ku-band communications, and added value services.
These include XChange Power communications management and business solutions such as SkyFile Mail email service and SkyFile AntiVirus premium security.
NSC-Group will also leverage bandwidth and capacity for its digitalised approach to vessel operations. Under the new agreement, it will test Marlink’s latest value-added services, including XChange Cloud Premium and IT-Link remote monitoring tool.
“Our experience using Marlink VSAT with the XChange management system has demonstrated the benefits of reliable, high throughput connections to our digitalised operations and now we are ready to take the next step,” said NSC-Group head of IT Patrick Schulz-Hentschel.
“Our plans for leveraging cloud-based data services and remotely updating computer networks for compliance, means we can improve service to our clients, as well as keep our crews happy,” said Mr Schulz-Hentschel.
For crew welfare, NSC-Group provides VSAT connectivity for online applications, internet browsing, social media and voice calling services.
This shipowner uses VSAT and software tools to combine enterprise applications for safety, operational efficiency and regulatory compliance with reliable connections for crew.
XChange Cloud Premium helps to streamline and enhance business, logistical and vessel operations by providing a reliable, easy to manage platform to share important files of any size or type throughout a fleet.
IT-Link enables IT managers to remotely monitor and update onboard IT networks and computer software.
Marlink president for maritime Tore Morten Olsen said this contract renewal demonstrates a growing trend for dedicated VSAT services and applications for fleet optimisation.
“Companies like NSC-Group have realised that a sustainable and profitable business is built on the embrace of digitalisation, the cleanest and most efficient operations and the welfare of its people,” said Mr Olsen.
NSC-Group operates 24 container ships, 10 tankers, two car carriers, five bulk carriers and two multipurpose ships.
