A Spanish shipyard has secured an order to build a tug with methanol-ready diesel-electric hybrid propulsion
Østensjø Rederi has ordered an offshore tugboat with diesel-electric hybrid propulsion from Spanish shipyard Gondan.
The 50-m vessel, with dynamic positioning of DP2 class, is scheduled for delivery Q1 2028 provide towage services. It will have a beam of 17 m, a bollard pull of 150 tonnes, propulsion ready to use methanol fuel when available, and Kongsberg Maritime’s permanent-magnet RIM-drive manoeuvring propellers.
Gondan will build the most powerful tugboat in Østensjø’s fleet using a Skipsteknisk ST-933 design with accommodation for 14 people and diesel-electric propulsion designed to reduce emissions, noise and vibrations. Its propulsion and deck machinery will be configured for towing manoeuvres from both the bow and stern using a single high-power, high-performance combined winch.
Gondan said this newbuilding reinforces the joint commitment of the shipyard and Østensjø for more efficient solutions with less environmental impact.
