Subsea precommissioning services have been selected for ExxonMobil’s latest deepwater oil project in Guyana, as development momentum continues in the oil-rich nation bordering Venezuela
Saipem has selected precommissioning services on subsea infrastructure including subsea umbilicals, risers and flowlines it is installing for the Whiptail development in the prolific Stabroek block for ExxonMobil. These subsea facilities will be connected to a floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel, ready to start oil production for the US-based oil major.
Saipem has subcontracted EnerMech to provide precommissioning services for Whiptail, which is 322 km offshore in a block which contains numerous producing FPSOs linked to subsea infrastructure. The work scope includes flooding, cleaning and hydrotesting subsea risers and flowlines; umbilical post-load out, transit and lay monitoring from the offshore construction vessel; and dynamic umbilical lay monitoring and post-installation testing from the FPSO unit.
EnerMech has provided similar precommissioning services for ExxonMobil’s deepwater oil projects in the same block – Liza Phase 2, Payara, Yellowtail and Uaru.
Due to the growing demand for offshore energy services in the region, which includes planned developments in Guyana, Suriname, Trinidad and potentially Venezuela, EnerMech is establishing a new facility in Georgetown and executing a phased equipment acquisition strategy to add remote flooding units and subsea test pumps to support future projects and enable faster, more-efficient mobilisation of equipment locally.
