Agreement between Cochin Shipyard and Seatrium Offshore Technology highlights potential for business growth in India’s offshore energy sector
Seatrium Offshore Technology (SOT) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Cochin Shipyard, India’s largest shipbuilder and vessel repairer, to strengthen their co-operation in the offshore sector across India and the rest of Asia.
The collaboration will focus on providing vessels and structures for offshore maintenance, repair and operations within Asia, thereby expanding into new markets. And the companies say they will co-ordinate to support regional energy transition, offshore developments and technology transfer.
Seatrium says the MoU facilitates its long-term participation in India’s offshore industry, supporting the country’s active expansion of offshore resources to bolster energy security for its industrialisation and urbanisation developments.
“This MoU is a strategic milestone in Seatrium’s efforts to expand our global footprint across Asia, with India identified as a key market for long-term growth,” said Seatrium Offshore Technology chief and senior vice president Winston Cheng.
“India’s rapidly developing offshore energy sector and rising demand for maritime infrastructure present compelling opportunities for collaboration and innovation,” he said.
“By combining with Cochin Shipyard we aim to deliver integrated offshore asset solutions that meet the region’s evolving needs, to support India’s energy transition, enhance its maritime capabilities, and position Seatrium as a trusted partner in driving sustainable offshore development.”
The partnership builds on an earlier collaboration signed in November 2024 between Seatrium Letourneau USA and Cochin Shipyard for the joint design and supply of equipment for jack-up rigs serving the Indian market.
