Oil discovery represents INEOS Energy’s first successful exploratory well in the Gulf of Mexico (Gulf of America)
INEOS Energy reported a new deepwater oil discovery at the Shell-operated exploration well Nashville in the US Gulf.
The discovery, close to the Appomattox production platform, is INEOS’ first successful exploration well in the region. Operator Shell owns a 79% working interest in the well, with INEOS controlling the remaining stake. The discovery could be tied back to the Appomattox production platform, operated by Shell and jointly owned by INEOS.
The discovery was drilled using Transocean’s ultra-deepwater drillship Deepwater Proteus. Further technical work is now under way to determine the size of the find.
INEOS Energy’s US Gulf business chief executive, Heather Osecki said, "This discovery is an important first step in our plans to grow our existing assets while we look to further strengthen our position in the Gulf. We look forward to continuing our work to bring further value to the Appomattox host platform.”
