The Netherlands-based GBM Works has completed a second seed funding round, raising a total of €6.2M which it will use to continue to develop technology that can install foundations for wind turbines noiselessly
The latest funding round was backed by new investor, Invest-NL, in addition to existing investors such as the European Innovation Council and Rotterdamse Havendraken.
GBM Works is developing the Vibrojet, a silent installation technique for monopiles for offshore wind turbines. Conventional piling techniques generate noise levels that can be harmful to marine life.
Invest-NL senior investment manager Wouter van Westenbrugge highlighted the potential significance of GBM Works’ technology. “Offshore wind is an essential pillar in the energy transition,” he said. “The technology developed by GBM Works enables the sector to comply with increasingly strict noise regulations. At a time when the offshore wind sector faces cost pressures, we believe it is vital to support innovations like this that provide solutions.”
GBM Works recently completed offshore tests as part of the SIMPLE III demonstrator project. The first commercial deployment of the Vibrojet on the Hollandse Kust West VI windfarm is due to take place in early 2026.
In parallel, GBM Works is continuing to develop the technology for use in other, complex soil conditions worldwide, which is believes is an essential step toward enabling global adoption of the technology.
