UK-based Sulmara has placed a contract with Ocean Power Technologies (OPT) for multiple WAM-V 16 uncrewed surface vehicles (USVs)
The deal is the largest single order of WAM-Vs to date and is valued at US$1.6M. The WAM-V 16s will enable Sulmara to collect a range of marine data. The company will use the WAM-V 16s to bolster capability in subsea applications, including hydrographic survey, remote inspection, UXO detection and environmental monitoring. The USVs will be used in a range of markets, including offshore wind.
Sulmara chief operating officer Carlo Pinto said, “Our investment in a fleet of bespoke WAM-V USVs is a pivotal step in our ongoing mission to decarbonise the offshore industry.
“This move not only demonstrates our dedication to environmental sustainability but also consolidates our role as an industry pioneer in adopting innovative solutions.
“Collaboration with OPT is proof of their unwavering support and alignment with our environmental and forward-thinking goals. Together, we aim to pave a greener path forward for the offshore sector.”
OPT chief executive Philipp Stratmann said, “We are delighted to expand our partnership with Sulmara and provide them with WAM-V 16 uncrewed surface vehicles.”
