Canada’s Trojan Marinex is making progress with its type-approval process for its BWT system, under the auspices of the Norwegian Administration and DNV.
The system was formerly marketed through Wärtsilä, under whose name it is listed in the 2013 edition of Ballast Water Treatment Technology, a guide distributed to Marine Propulsion’s readers, but that non-exclusive distribution agreement “ended recently and mutually, due to shifts in strategic direction,” explained the company in a statement. Partnership discussions are now in progress with a number of other major marine equipment suppliers, it added.
Shipboard testing has been completed on the Marad-owned training ship Golden Bear with three tests being completed, meeting IMO requirements over a 12-month period. Land-based testing is currently being undertaken at the DHI Maritime Technology Evaluation Facility in Hundestadt, Denmark and IMO type-approval is expected later this year. The system is also being tested according to the US Environmental Technology Verification (ETV) protocol. MP
