Liner and tramp carrier Varamar DMCC and ASL Shipping & Logistics, a subsidiary of China’s COSCO Shipping Group, will work together to promote their partner’s schedules, conduct joint marketing initiatives and begin sharing information on open tonnage to support their adjacent trades
Varamar specialises in breakbulk, dry-bulk, oversized and containerised cargo, mainly working with a fleet in the 3,000-30,000-dwt tonnage range. Historically, Varamar has focused on trade lanes connecting Europe with the Middle East, Asia and Far East, while also trading to Africa and the Americas, but has recently expanded to international branches in Antwerp, Hamburg, Genoa, Athens, Odessa, Istanbul, Dubai, Shanghai, Houston and Vancouver.
COSCO – a goliath of world trade – owns and operates vessels in the 28,000 dwt-60,000 dwt segment operating in Asia, the Middle East, Africa and the Americas.
The COSCO and Varamar fleets and schedules will be represented on the Shipnext shipping platform which will help both chartering teams facilitate co-operation.
COSCO’s Kaptan Singh will head and create teams for this partnership as head representative, working alongside Varamar managing director Niraj Mehta and Varamar Shanghai managing director Andy Zhuang.
"Both entities have different areas of operation and trade targets, so we believe this agreement plays to the strengths of each partner. We look forward to working together to strengthen the commercial and chartering activities of both COSCO and Varamar,” said Mr Zhuang.
