Van Wijngaarden Marine Services (VWMS) welcomed a new multi cat (MuC) workboat from Damen Shipyards to support marine construction, offshore works and towage
Waddenstroom was built by Damen to its MuC 3713 design, the largest in its range with dynamic positioning to DP2 class and propulsion compliant with IMO Tier III emissions standards.
It was delivered by Damen Shipyards Hardinxveld in December 2023 to VWMS’ workboat fleet, which includes five Damen Shoalbusters and a DP1 MuC 3013.
Damen said this vessel “features a series of innovations to ensure its suitability” to support operations in marine and offshore renewable energy sectors.
It has a selective catalytic reduction system to cut NOx emissions and adapted steel work and deck to facilitate the range of equipment VWMS requested, including cranes and winches.
Damen installed 10 of the vessel’s 16 crew cabins above deck to meet the higher standards for crew comfort ordered by the owner.
VWMS managing director Peter van Wijngaarden said the owner works with Damen to adapt workboats for its requirements and that of the market.
“We can work together on developing vessels that meet the technical and sustainable requirements of the maritime industry of today and tomorrow,” he said.
