Taking the strain: cranes and lifting equipment for offshore vessels

Lifting equipment such as cranes are an offshore vessel’s most important tool. Manufacturers are designing new-generation cranes to handle huge offshore wind turbines and foundations. They are developing 3-D motion-compensated units for ships such as SOVs. Elsewhere, lifting solutions are being developed that could eliminate the need for cranes altogether.
