April’s International Chemical & Product Tanker Conference briefed attendees on today’s complex and evolving regulatory scene as well as tanker specific operational issues like SIRE 2.0 and strategies for overcoming commercial pressures that prioritise over-cleaning.
Delegate feedback praised the high standard of the presentations throughout. This included an especially lively session on the impact of sanctions on global trade flows and how shifts in trade patterns present both challenge and opportunity.
The conference provided examples of how early adopters and market leaders are taking advantage of hardware, software and AI to achieve competitive advantage. Best practices and strategies for success were shared by smaller and midsized companies as well as industry titans like TORM and Odfjell.
Decarbonisation was of course in focus. Experience with LNG-fuelled vessels and methanol-ready tankers was shared. The implications of the EU’s Fit for 55 package, ETS and the FuelEU Maritime Directive for the international chemical and product tanker industry explained.
Especially appreciated was the way the event brought together a diverse range of industry stakeholders, including shipowners, operators, charterers, fuel suppliers and regulators. Participants gave high markets for a conference format that facilitated networking and experience sharing. The networking breaks and drinks reception were alive with delegates exploring opportunities for collaboration and partnership.
Riviera’s year-round commitment to coverage of the tanker market continues with a webinar week focussed on shuttle tankers in May as well as a two-day Crude Tankers and Terminals Conference October 23-24 in London.
