Attendees of Riviera’s September Maritime Decarbonisation Conference, Exhibition and Awards in Amsterdam came away with an enhanced understanding of the technologies and strategies that will shape the future of decarbonised shipping.
Delegates - spanning representatives from leading charterers, shipowners, ports, yards, OEMs and fuel suppliers - said attendance meant they are better positioned for the changes, challenges and most importantly opportunities ahead. Sponsoring and exhibiting companies gave the event high marks for the quality of its attendees, networking opportunities and lead generation.
High marks were given for the influential roster of speakers and more intimate roundtable discussions that provided keen insights across the technical, operational, commercial, regulatory, and financial dimensions of the energy transition.
Papers that offered an in-depth look at new fuel technologies like ammonia and hydrogen engines, carbon capture systems, hybrid power, and fuel cells were seen as especially valuable. Also well-appreciated were talks on decarbonisation’s implications for crewing, voyage planning, pilot projects, and port readiness. Case studies on collaboration across shipping’s complex value chain emphasised actual and potential partnership opportunities and were delivered to a packed auditorium.
Buzzing networking sessions in the exhibition area and a lively dinner and awards session supported relationship-building, celebrated industry achievement and sparked new ideas and partnerships. The mood music was that while first movers will always face a degree of risk and cost, there is clear evidence of available funding, improved economics and meaningful returns for those who take the initiative.
Riviera’s global series of Maritime Decarbonisation Conferences take place annually in Europe, Asia and America. The next event in the series is in Houston in December.
