Our Responsible Ship Recycling Forum in London delivered essential updates on what makes for responsible ship recycling today and tomorrow.
The market is significant. BIMCO forecasts 15,000 ships representing 600 million dwt will need to be recycled between now and 2032. The regulatory landscape is rapidly shifting too. This month’s entry into force of the Hong Kong Convention ushers in a new unified, global approach to safe and sustainable ship recycling practices. It also gives added momentum to companies looking to reinvent the industry using new technologies, techniques, automation and AI.
The one-day forum - held at the London offices of international law firm Norton Rose Fulbright - brought together 100 professionals from 20 different nations representing vessel ownership, chartering, finance, law, recycling, cash buying, technology, industry association, politics and the wider supply chain.
Delegates were thoroughly briefed on regulatory, legal, ESG, commercial, operational and technological aspects. Generous networking opportunities, including a drinks reception with stunning vistas of London, provided the perfect backdrop for renewing and forging business relationships.
Riviera’s commitment to this vital industry area is absolute. Work is underway on the 2024 conference already as well as expanded editorial coverage and a dedicated newsletter.
