Enagás has introduced 12,500-m³ Alisios LNG into the Spanish market, with Axpo chartering the vessel for bunkering work in southern Iberia
Enagás and Axpo have introduced a new LNG bunkering vessel into the Iberian Peninsula market.
12,500-m³ Alisios LNG is operating under a commercial charter to Axpo. Built by Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore and Engineering in China, the vessel is owned by Enagás through its Scale Green Energy subsidiary.
The vessel will supply LNG and bioLNG for maritime transport and will work from one of Enagás’s loading terminals in Spain.
The companies said the ship is intended to support demand for lower-emissions marine fuels in southern Iberia.
Enagás chief executive officer Arturo Gonzalo said, “Today’s launch is a key milestone in the development of infrastructure that contributes to the decarbonisation of the maritime sector. The adoption of more sustainable fuels, such as LNG and bioLNG, also supports compliance with European emissions-reduction targets.”
Axpo Iberia managing director Ignacio Soneira said, “Commissioning this new vessel further consolidates Axpo’s leadership in the small-scale LNG bunkering business as we continue our efforts to help the transition to decarbonise maritime transport.”
Alisios LNG has advanced control systems intended to improve manoeuvrability in different port environments and cargo-handling technology designed to maintain the condition of LNG and bioLNG during the voyage.
The companies described the vessel as suitable for a range of port settings and customer supply requirements.
Enagás now operates four LNG bunkering vessels in southern Europe through Scale Green Energy: Alisios LNG, Levante LNG, Mistral LNG and Haugesund Knutsen.
Spain’s seven LNG regasification plants now support LNG bunkering with Barcelona, Cartagena, Huelva and El Musel having launched bioLNG supply services for ships and tankers.
