Bureau Veritas (BV) and Kongsberg Digital have introduced new capabilities covering digitally optimised ship machinery maintenance
Machinery maintenance data can be transferred to classification society BV’s Machinery Maintenance application (MMA) direct from the vessel operator’s own maintenance management system through Kongsberg’s K-Fleet software. The first connection between BV’s MMA and a vessel owner’s computerised maintenance management system (CMMS) went live 3 April on a Furetank tanker, using K-Fleet and the vessel’s communications technology.
Furetank will then push its planned maintenance system and survey data to BV’s MMA. The class society can use this data to prepare periodical audits with greater speed and efficiency.
“This is a significant step forward in supporting shipowners, operators and managers with their machinery maintenance requirements,” said BV vice president for digital solutions and transformation Laurent Hentges. “This collaboration with Kongsberg highlights our ambition to take advantage of new technology and data exchange to advance digitalisation to support class surveys and our clients with their digital transformation.”
BV intends to replicate this first connection with other shipowners and their CMMS. Data acquired will also open the door for data analytics and optimised maintenance models in the future.
Using this new connector, the vessel’s list of equipment is sent and the maintenance report data is pushed automatically from Kongsberg K-Fleet.
When the machinery maintenance audit is requested by the vessel operator, the surveyor will log into BV’s MMA and generate the maintenance report for the time in question with the latest data received, ready for review.
K-Fleet will then continue to update with new data on a regular time schedule until a new request for annual, occasional or renewal audit is received.
“We continuously strive towards utilising new technologies and developments which make our ship operation safer and more efficient,” said Furetank technical co-ordinator Sanna Tovar. “The possibility to share the information from the vessels’ planned maintenance system directly with BV class surveyors will improve our work towards safer shipping and optimise our onboard surveys.”
The BV surveyor can go on board better prepared and focus on items not already available through the system.
