Wärtsilä Water and Waste has introduced a version of its Aquarius UV ballast water management system (BWMS) with the FilterSafe Manta filter
FilterSafe Manta filter has a OneMotion scanner that efficiently cleans the screen in a single rotation, ensuring optimal performance and longevity.
Extensive testing at the DHI test facilities in Denmark demonstrated the exceptional capabilities of the Manta filter. Organic load tests revealed it surpassed the International Maritime Organization (IMO) standards by a remarkable factor of 22, while maintaining the designated flow rate.
Additionally, DHI measurements confirmed an impressive removal efficiency of 99.96% for organisms larger than 50 microns, reinforcing the system’s ability to preserve water quality.
The Manta filter has received type-approval from the Bureau Veritas, underscoring its compliance with rigorous industry standards.
Wärtsilä believes incorporating the Manta filter into the Wärtsilä Aquarius UV system ensures an effective UV secondary treatment for ballast water management.
With its 25-micron smartweave screen, the Manta filter is claimed to efficiently prevent sediment from getting trapped, eliminating the risk of cake build-up and maintaining the screen’s optimal cleanliness.
The Wärtsilä Aquarius UV BWMS is the first to incorporate Manta filter as its core filtration component, establishing itself as a pioneer in the industry. The new combination is currently undergoing class and IMO equivalency testing, and sets new standards for environmental compliance, stengthening the company’s commitment to sustainable shipping practices.
The United States Coast Guard (USCG) has granted approval for the use of the Manta filter in existing BWMS installations with USCG type-approval.
