GMT - ONLINEOne of the world’s largest owners of LNG carriers will introduce digital engine analytics to optimise performance and prevent downtime
Athens, Greece-headquartered GasLog will invest in Propulsion Analytics to develop a customised platform for analysing engineroom data for advanced diagnostics and predictive maintenance strategies. This will use digital information held on cloud-based infrastructure, recorded since 2022, for analysis to optimise engine performance and support data-driven engine maintenance decisions.
Propulsion Analytics will use its Engine Hyper Cube platform as a basis for this tailored solution for GasLog, which owns, operates and manages 35 LNG carriers and a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU).
High-frequency data is collated from onboard engine sensors and uploaded to Kongsberg Digital’s Vessel Insight cloud, which GasLog has used for the past two years, where it is analysed by Engine Hyper Cube.
“Our new digital engine management platform paves the way for realising our long-term strategy of engine lifecycle maintenance optimisation,” said GasLog manager for asset integrity, Lampros Nikolopoulos.
“With such tools developed from Propulsion Analytics and enabled through Kongsberg Digital, we can target increased plant reliability and optimise the total cost of ownership of our assets, thus maintaining our commitment to operational excellence for a sustainable future.”
The primary objectives of this advanced platform are enhancing engine availability; optimising fuel efficiency and minimising environmental impact; and data-driven predictive maintenance.
Propulsion Analytics will develop advanced diagnostics and predictive maintenance strategies to enhance vessel reliability and reduce engine downtime.
GasLog expects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through improved engine performance and intends to couple continuous engine performance monitoring, prognostics and optimised operation with long-term statistics and reliability-based engineering principles to develop a more flexible overhauling plan, in line with LNG carrier trading profiles and drydock schedules.
“This platform marks a significant step forward in our efforts to provide advanced software tools which improve operational performance and reduce maintenance cost,” said Propulsion Analytics chief executive Panos Kyrtatos.
“Our engine diagnostic expertise, combined with the extensive operational experience from GasLog and the continuous data from the Vessel Insight platform, are a key enabler towards sustainable and efficient maritime operations.”
Kongsberg Digital director of ecosystem processing and analysis, Kim Evanger, said, “By combining Vessel Insight’s cloud infrastructure and Engine Hyper Cube capabilities, we are delivering technology for superior performance monitoring and fault detection. Digital solutions will enhance maritime operations, supporting GasLog’s mission to maintain the highest standards of efficiency and reliability across its fleet.”
Riviera’s Maritime Decarbonisation Conference Asia, will be held in Singapore, 15-16 April 2024 where experts and shipowners will examine the most viable decarbonisation pathways for Asia’s shipping industry. This conference will bring together the latest thinking and developments on net-zero strategies, regulations, technologies, supply chain maturity and economics.
