German firm Hoppe Marine said the company is developing a fully automatic version of its existing Flume Roll stabilisation system
The new version of the Flume system will automatically adjust the level of the roll damping tank to the current loading condition of the vessel by communicating with the loading computer.
In addition to the automatic level optimisation and the resulting reduced workload for the crew, Hoppe Marine said this roll stabilisation system will help reduce fuel consumption, maximise cargo space with a view to increase revenue, increase flexibility in stowage which also helps reduce the potential for cargo damage and resulting insurance claims, and increase the comfort and safety of the crew.
The newly developed automatic mode can also be retrofitted to many existing Flume systems with little effort. The first installation will take place on a 15,000-TEU CMA CGM container ship currently under construction in Shanghai Jiangnan Changxing Shipbuilding.
