Hanwha Ocean has ordered equipment for seven 174,000-m³ LNG carriers using a revised cargo and propulsion platform
Hanwha Ocean has placed an order covering 14 boil-off gas compressors for seven 174,000-m³ LNG carriers from Burckhardt Compression.
Burckhardt Compression said the contract covers a new series of LNG carriers and represents the first commercial deployment of its high-pressure boil-off gas compressor generation.
The equipment was developed to meet the requirements of what it described as next-generation LNG carriers.
Hanwha Ocean’s latest vessel platform combines GTT’s NO96 Super+ cargo containment system with Everllence’s upgraded ME-GI propulsion system operating at 330-bar gas injection pressure.
Burckhardt Compression said this arrangement results in lower boil-off gas rates and improved energy consumption, while addressing stricter emissions and methane slip requirements.
Burckhardt Compression president systems division Andreas Brautsch said, “Winning this milestone project demonstrates our technological leadership in high-pressure ME-GI applications.”
Mr Brautsch added, “This compressor sets a new performance benchmark in BOG management and reinforces our role as a key technology partner for next-generation LNG carriers.”
The compressor was developed in collaboration with Everllence and Hanwha Ocean’s design teams, and it is fully integrated into the revised ship design as part of the new vessel platform.
Everllence vice president, head of global sales and promotion, two-stroke business Christian Ludwig said, “We are very pleased to partner with Burckhardt Compression in such a significant order.”
Mr Ludwig said the compressor package, combined with the Everllence B&W ME-GI engine, will provide “a future-proof solution for LNG and methane-powered vessels with negligible methane-slip and high fuel-efficiency”, adding that the engine has a proven track record of reliable operation.
Burckhardt Compression said this is the largest single order in its marine segment history.
