Orange Marine has selected a manufacturer for the integrated power, propulsion and automation systems for two cable repair vessels being built in Sri Lanka
Colombo Dockyard will install integrated electrical power, propulsion and automation systems on two cable repair vessels it is building for Orange Marine in Sri Lanka with ABB automation, energy storage and Azipod propulsion technology.
Orange will operate the cable layers in the Atlantic and Indian oceans, the Mediterranean, Black and Red seas after they are delivered in 2028 and 2029.
They will feature gearless Azipod propulsors and compact remote-control equipment to optimise manoeuvrability and thrust performance during complex cable repairs.
On each vessel, Colombo will install an ABB’s Ability 800xA integrated automation system, integrated energy storage system, PEMS power and energy management system and Ability remote diagnostic system for control and monitoring to raise uptime, lower fuel consumption and improve operational safety.
ABB will also supply generators, low-voltage switchboards, propulsion and thruster drives, thruster motors and transformers for each vessel.
“Cable repair operations demand exceptional manoeuverability, reliability and energy efficiency,” said Orange Marine chief executive Didier Dillard.
“The integration of ABB’s Azipod propulsion, energy management and automation solutions will enhance our vessels’ ability to perform complex subsea interventions safely and efficiently, while supporting our objectives to reduce fuel consumption and emissions across our fleet.”
