Cafimar Group subsidiary Somat has taken delivery of a new azimuth stern drive (ASD) tugboat to enhance ship towage in Sicily, Italy
Med Marine provided Zu Pasquale (ER113) newbuild to Somat in September, just six months after signing the contract for this 25-m harbour tug.
It was built as a MED-A2575-series tug at the Eregli Shipyard in the Zonguldak region of Turkey to a Robert Allan Ltd RAmparts 2500W design.
With a beam of 12 m, a depth of around 5 m, a draught of 6 m and a speed of 11 knots, this ASD tug has a bollard pull of 70 tonnes. It has a FiFi1-class fire-fighting system and accommodation for seven crew in living quarters with a controlled climate.
Somat intends to use this tug to assist ships into terminals and for harbour towage in the ports of Civitavecchia, Palermo, Trapani, Porto Empedocle, Imerese, Marsala and Licata.
“Taking delivery of a very efficient tug represents a new milestone in the modernisation of our fleet,” said Cafimar chief executive Alessandro Russo. “Our newbuild tug will help the company to increase the quality of the service provided to our clients in Sicily.”
Med Marine sales director Melis Üçüncü said the construction and contract was collaboration among all the teams involved. It was a “partnership and opportunity to work together with Somat.”
