Havila Kystruten’s newbuild cruise ships Havila Capella and Havila Castor’s compressors will contribute to energy efficiency
Oslo-based TMC Compressors of the Seas (TMC) has signed a deal to deliver energy-efficient compressed air systems to Tersan Shipyard in Yalova, Turkey, where the vessels will be constructed.
TMC will supply a complete system comprising instruments, compressors and air dryers to each vessel.
“When operating along the pristine Norwegian coastline, you want to keep your environmental footprint to an absolute minimum,” said TMC’s European sales manager Morten Orlien. Our highly energy efficient compressed air systems, with their low energy consumption and associated emissions to air, therefore fit well with the environmental profile of Havila Kystruten’s vessels.”
Havila Capella and Havila Castor are built to the same design and will be 122.7 m long, 22 m wide and able to carry up to 640 passengers each.
The two ships have been designed by Havyard Design & Solutions to exceed the Norwegian Ministry of Transport and Communications’ environmental requirements by a wide margin, and will be powered by a liquefied natural gas and battery hybrid system.
They will operate on the Bergen-Kirkenes route along Norway’s western coastline, with 34 port calls along the way. Scheduled to enter service in 2021, the vessels will operate on a fixed-duration 10-year contract.
