Floatel International has clinched a contract to supply an accommodation semi-submersible to Equinor to support the long-term maintenance and refurbishment of the Åsgard B floating production system in the Norwegian Sea
State-backed energy group Equinor has contracted Floatel Superior for at least six months beginning in March or April 2025, with options to extend the hire period if required.
Floatel Superior is a 2010-built semi-submersible accommodation and construction support vessel with Kongsberg dynamic positioning to DP3 class, capacity for 440 people in single-bed cabins, a telescopic gangway to transfer personnel to the host installation, two deck cranes, workshops, lay-down and storage areas and a helideck.
Åsgard is located at Haltenbanken about 200 km from the Trøndelag coast and 50 km south of the Heidrun field.
The field consists of the Midgard, Smørbukk and Smørbukk South deposits and the Åsgard facilities process oil and gas from the Mikkel, Morvin and Trestakk fields.
Åsgard B, which came on stream in October 2000, is the largest semi-submersible floating platform ever built for production, with 33,700 tonnes of topside processing facilities for gas treatment and stabilising oil and condensates.
Floatel International said this contract is in addition to two other contracts it has gained since the end of December 2023.
One was hiring 2013-built Floatel Victory to Equinor to support work on the floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel producing and exporting oil from the Peregrino field, offshore Brazil.
“Two of the letter of intents outstanding as of 31 December 2023 have, as of today [27 February], been turned into signed contracts,” said Floatel International.
The Oslo, Norway listed owner said it had fleet utilisation of 40% in Q4 2023 as some of its five semi-submersible accommodation units were laid up.
The total firm contract backlog (excluding options) was around US$390M as of 31 December 2023, while the company has US$26M of revenues in Q4 2023.
During Q4 2023, Floatel Endurance started its second special periodic survey while idle in Skipavika, Norway. It is awaiting the start of its next assignment at the AkerBP Skarv FPSO in March 2024.
Floatel Triumph was on charter for Shell at the Prelude FPSO, Australia, until 22 November 2023 and Floatel Victory on charter throughout Q4 2023 for Chevron at the Anchor field in the US Gulf of Mexico; this contract has now been extended to April 2024.
