French engineering concern, Ecovia, has launched the latest version of its fuel saving system for ships operating in the freight, passenger and professional fishing sectors. The OPTI+4 monitor is designed for engines with power ratings between 510kW and 3,670kW (700-5,000 bhp) and is claimed to be capable of achieving fuel reductions of between 5 to 12 per cent.
The OPTI+4 equipment is attached to an engine’s feed line and works by taking advantage of the effects of magnets on fuel consumption. The fuel consumption of ageing engines can reach 150 litres/h. As such, the manufacturer states the system will pay for itself within a year and offers an actual average lifetime of eight years.
To maximise the benefits of this technology, Ecovia investigates the characteristics of each installation before fitting the system. MP
