Seven class societies certify HiMSEN four-stroke, methanol DF engine

HD HHI-EMD reported class societies Korean Register, ABS, Bureau Veritas, DNV, ClassNK, Lloyd’s Register and RINA witnessed the results of the TAT of the four-stroke engine methanol dual-fuel HiMSEN engine H22CDF-LM during 19-22 March.

Capable of using both diesel and methanol, the dual-fuel engine can produce 1,440-2,160-kW output, and greatly improves the effectiveness of installation, management and engine efficiency compared with the South Korean engine manufacturer’s existing engine with an electro-hydraulic boosting unit (e-HBU) — an independently developed methanol boosting unit.

The certification of H22CDF-LM follows HD-HHI-EMD’s first four-stroke methanol dual-fuel engine H32DF-LM to be approved by class.

HD HHI-EMD said it expects the methanol DF H22CDF-LM engine will be used in container feeders, tankers and bulk carriers. The engine manufacturer said the TAT of its HiMSEN ammonia dual-fuel engine will be conducted in H2 2024, noting, “It is expected to solidify its position as a first mover of the eco-friendly fuel engine market by ultra-gap technology.”
